From 1 October 2020 this year, individuals will only be able to exercise a statutory function at a mine when they hold a practising certificate.
The transitional arrangements (PDF, 2.42 MB) that have allowed holders of certificates of competence to exercise statutory functions will end on 30 September 2020.
The statutory functions requiring a practising certificate from 1 October 2020 this year are:
- Mining engineering manager (for all 3 classes of mine)
- Mechanical engineering manager
- Electrical engineering manager
- Undermanager
- Deputy
- Ventilation officer
- Ventilation auditor
- Dust explosion control measures auditor
- Open cut examiner
- Electrical engineer
- Mechanical engineer
- Underground mine supervisor
- Quarry manager – including conditioned to a specific mine (previously called production manager permits).
The Resources Regulator will monitor compliance to ensure only individuals with a practising certificate are nominated to exercise statutory functions from 1 October 2020.
