Advancing safety standards: Insights from the 32nd Electrical Engineering Safety Seminar

The 32nd Electrical Engineering  Safety Seminar (EESS), held at Hyatt Regency Sydney on 6-7 November 2024, has reinforced its role as a leader in advancing safety within the mining sector.

Over two days, 264 professionals from across the industry convened to share knowledge, exchange innovative ideas, and strengthen their commitment to enhancing safety practices in electrical engineering.

This year's seminar showcased a cutting-edge program, featuring a compelling account of a "Young Stat Engineer's Journey" and a focus on key themes in mining safety, including practical assurance frameworks for statutory position holders, emerging technologies, and the evolving risks associated with automation and electrification in mining.

Presentations covered critical topics such as electric shock prevention, root cause analysis for risk management, and safety during power outages in underground mines. The event also highlighted the importance of maintaining competency in the workforce and addressed emerging challenges like the safe integration of battery-powered machinery and automation in the sector, offering valuable insights from industry experts.

This seminar filled with high-quality presentations, interactive discussions, and ample networking opportunities, was a remarkable success, driving forward the conversation on safety excellence.

Resource Regulator Chief Inspector Anthony Margetts, said “the key to improving health, safety and wellbeing outcomes for workers in the NSW mining industry is through the engagement and collaborative effort of those who have the greatest influence to make a meaningful change, these events continue to achieve just that.”
