Call for an independent member – Mining and Petroleum Competence Board

The Resources Regulator is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified people for consideration for appointment as an independent member of the Mining and Petroleum Competence Board (MPCB).

The MPCB is a statutory board that advises the Minister and the Resources Regulator in relation to mines on the:

  • setting of competence standards for those exercising functions at a mine or petroleum site that impact on the health and safety of any person
  • standards for assessing competence
  • requirements for the maintenance of competence.

The required skills, knowledge and experience are:

  • proven judgement, objectivity, critical thinking, and impartiality
  • capacity to understand and manage conflicts of interest
  • ability to contribute to the effectiveness of the board and listen attentively to other's opinions
  • ability to analyse information and make a constructive contribution to discussion
  • significant professional expertise and judgment
  • expertise in the development of competence standards and assessment of competence
  • capacity to appreciate national developments in relation to competence.

Experience in the mining industry, education or professional skills development would be beneficial but is not essential.

Remuneration is paid according to the Public Service Commission’s Boards and Committees Classification Framework (currently a sitting fee of $500.00 per meeting). The appointment is for a term of up to three years. A probity check of suitable applicants will be undertaken before appointment.
