Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG)
The NSW Government is committed to ensuring the safe and sustainable development of our mineral resources.
NSW and Australia already have some of the world’s strongest ESG performance through our robust legislation, planning and approvals process and regulatory framework. These demonstrate the state’s reputation as a stable, trusted and ethical trading partner for investment opportunities.
As we develop our critical minerals industry, NSW will continue to apply the highest ESG standards and practices to support a new supply of sustainably produced minerals into global supply chains.
NSW ESG credentials include:
Environment

- Biodiversity and land use
- Flora and fauna protection
- Waste management

A review of the NSW ESG credentials shows the state’s regulatory processes align with international leading-practice frameworks. Compliance with applicable performance expectations at a state and/or national level included 97% compliance with applicable International Council on Mining and Metals (ICMM) and 100% compliance with the Initiative of Responsible Mining Assurance (IRMA) performance expectations.
NSW's commitment to ESG is further reflected in our legislative and regulatory frameworks.
