Public registers
The Mining Act 1992 and Mining Regulation 2016, and the Petroleum (Onshore) Act and Petroleum (Onshore) Regulation 2016, outline the information NSW Resources is required to make available in public registers, including information about mining authorities, mineral claims, opal prospecting licences, petroleum titles, registered interests, arbitrations and collieries.
The Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 defines a public register to mean a register of personal information that is required by law to be made available.
Public registers maintained by the department include the following:
Mining titles register
View the Mining Titles Register page to access a record of current and historical dealings for mining authorities and petroleum titles. This register also contains a record of equitable interests and subleases that may be related to a mining authority or a petroleum title.
The records available for viewing online include every application made, and if it has been granted, renewed, transferred, or cancelled for a mining authority under the Mining Act 1992 and a petroleum title under the Petroleum (Onshore) Act.
Register of mineral claims and opal prospecting licences
The register of mineral claims and opal prospecting licences contains records for both the Lightning Ridge Mineral Claims District and the White Cliffs Mineral Claims District. This register also contains a record of equitable interests and subleases that may be related to these small-scale titles.
This register is accessible by contacting the department via email at titles@regional.nsw.gov.au and include the following information in your email, so the department may be able to assist you.

Register of arbitrated access arrangements
This register records the final arbitrated arrangements determined by an Arbitrator appointed under the Mining Act 1992.
Personal information is redacted from the final published arrangements on the website.
Register of Arbitration Panel members
View the list of arbitrators who have been appointed by the Secretary.
Arbitrators may be contacted where mutually agreed by the parties to undertake mediation and arbitration.
Either party can also apply to the department to request an arbitrator be directly appointed.

Register of colliery holdings
This register is accessible by contacting the department via email at titles@regional.nsw.gov.au and include the following information in your email, so the department may be able to assist you.

Correcting personal information on the public registers
Any person whose personal information is recorded in a register has the right to apply to the department to access and correct any personal information the department holds about you if that information is inaccurate, incomplete, not relevant, or out of date.

The mining titles register reflects the requirements of sections 159, 161 and 163A of the Mining Act 1992 and sections 95 and 97 of the Petroleum (Onshore) Act 1991.
The register of arbitrated access arrangements reflects the requirements of section 156A of the Mining Act 1992.
The register of appointed arbitrators reflects the requirements of section 139(7) of the Mining Act 1992.
The register of mineral claims and opal prospecting licences reflects the requirements of sections 218A and 218B(9) of the Mining Act 1992.
