Hawkins and Rumker potential release areas ruled out for coal exploration
The NSW Government will not release the Hawkins and Rumker potential release areas for coal exploration under the Strategic Release Framework.
The Advisory Body for Strategic Release recommended to not release the areas because of significant commercial, logistical and social constraints which mean there is a low probability of a new coal mine being developed in the area.
In making its recommendation, the Advisory Body for Strategic Release considered the Preliminary Regional Issues Assessment Report, the Resource Assessment Summary Report and Commercial Viability Assessment Report.
The map of areas in NSW coal regions available and excluded from future coal exploration and mining (PDF, 1.43 MB) has been updated to remove the Hawkins and Rumker potential release areas.
